ARTIST STATEMENT

michas pots.png

As an artist I am interested in themes such as Sociology, Psychology and art as a therapeutic practice. Within these subjects I consider my own experiences with OCD, how it affects my daily life and the coping methods that I use.

My work, although conceptual, is also visual. Having pieces that capture the attention of my audience because they are attracted to the aesthetic qualities of my work mean that they can begin to build an opinion on the piece’s context.

My work is multi-disciplinary, but I often produce work through video, sculpture, audio, installation and textiles. Video captures the raw experiences in my art and gives me the freedom to display visuals and points that are being conveyed in a concise and visually appealing way. Textiles and sculpture add depth and texture to my practise, they have tactile qualities which attract the viewers to interact with the work and experience it in a more physical way- this is important to me as an artist because I learn by doing and seeing.
